High Vis

High Vis

High Vis is a participatory digital arts project which over 6 months created a platform in Hammersmith and Fulham for learning disabled people from This New Ground collective to make and share innovative digital art work. Lucy was inspired to develop the High Vis project after working with TNG members during lockdown on digital art projects. TNG members gained skills and confidence working with digital technology and created some amazing short animation films.

During the project, this New Ground collective participants worked alongside TNG’s associate artist Lucy and acclaimed digital artist Jason Wilsher-Mills.

Sculpture

In collaboration with Jason, project participants have created a 10-foot inflatable sculpture. The highly decorated sculpture features the landmarks and history of Hammersmith and Fulham, as well as drawings and words by TNG collective members.

“I am a beautiful woman.”

“I am a disabled person who is fun to be around. I am a talented musician.”

“I am a funny, friendly disabled person who cares a lot for his friends and family.”

 Animation

This project has been an opportunity for TNG collective members to enhance their digital creative skills, using the iPad, creating stop-motion animations and digital drawings using Procreate. During this project participants created an animation called Open The Bridge reflecting on their experiences of emerging from lockdown and their feelings as Learning Disabled community members in Hammersmith and Fulham.

Creative Leadership Training Programme

As well as creating their own artworks TNG collective members are taking part in a creative leadership training programme and work placements supporting young people at MENCAP HF to obtain their Arts Award. As part of the training programme TNG collective members worked alongside Artist Facilitators Lucy and Amy to develop digital creative workshops to deliver to the young people at MENCAP HF. These workshops have been an opportunity for TNG members to develop their facilitation skills, collaborate and share knowledge.

“I really enjoyed the session. I have never created art digitally before.” - Amadea, HF MENCAP participant

“I am enjoying teaching the MENCAP members the iPad and digital art. It’s good to share my skills.” - Faisal, TNG Collective member

This Project is supported by The Big Lottery Community Fund, Bishop Creighton House, Hammersmith and Fulham Council, The Daisy Trust, MENCAP HF and Hammersmith United Charities.
